Ferguson, MO: Outrage in the Air

Updated: Apr 10, 2020

A grand jury in Ferguson, Missouri decided not to indict Darren Wilson, 28, a police officer who shot 6 bullets into Mike Brown, 18, after a provocative encounter. Mike Brown, who was unarmed by witness accounts, died.

The initial fatal encounter on August 9th, 2014 sparked outrage. Protesters in Ferguson roamed the streets to voice how racism has taken over the law. Tensions rose and the police arming up with tanks didn't help matters. Nevertheless, quietness was reached as the trial set in. Residents of Ferguson and Brown supporters were hopeful.

The grand jury's decision was announced at 7:25pm CT on November 24, 2014.

After looking at the chart for that event time, you'll see planets that are in placements and aspects that have the potential for upset and indignation. Uranus, the planet of surprises and disruption (among other things), and Pluto which rules power struggles and destruction (among other things), are both on angles. Uranus is being squared by the Moon and Mars indicating unstable conditions and emotional tensions (a squared Moon) and an impulsive need to vent that tension in a headstrong way (a squared Mars). All things considered, the criticism Brown's stepfather is getting is harsh. Benjamin Crump, the Brown family attorney was right on the money when he identified Brown's stepfather's reaction to the jury decision as, "Raw emotion," and defended them saying "Don't defend people for being human."

It's not only Brown's stepfather who felt this way, but everyone across communities in the US. The Moon conjunct Pluto only intensified emotions and the course Mars is taking is more of the "in your face" kind of aggression.

The gravity (Saturn) of the announcement (Mercury) was felt and reflected in the short quiet hours on November 25th after the conjuction between the two planets in Scorpio. It took some time for Saturn to restrict the outrage, but it finally settled. Then as the conjunction separated, and the outer planets and combatant Mars dominate, more riots and demonstrations will take place.

The Mercury and Saturn conjunction in Scorpio squaring Neptune (the planet of idealism and illusion, among other things) had really handicapped it despite it being at home in Pisces. Creativity sparked but dark as in this piece (warning, do NOT click if you do not like profane language!!), a mock-up of the New York Times front page.

As the planets move beyond the angles and break their aspects, the riots will in turn die down. There's still one more square left between Uranus and Pluto, which might arouse more headliners with the Ferguson case. It's not yet over.
